The Great Bunny Rescue of June 2011 (and other updates)

"Mommy!" said Jared excitedly, "I found a bunny!"
"Where?" asked Mommy, "Outside?"
"Yes!" said Jared, "Come and see!"

So, Mom followed Jared, but instead of him stopping at the window to look outside or at the door to go outside, he led Mom down to the basement. Amanda was waiting there, and she and Jared showed Mom what they'd found looking in through the basement window. Sure enough, it was a bunny!

Mom rounded up the Muffins for a rescue mission. Here are Jared and Amanda looking down at the trapped little bunny.

Mom handed the camera to Amanda, both to have free hands for bunny grabbing and to give Amanda a turn.

Mom got the bunny out, but it wriggled out of her hands pronto and dashed away from the Muffin crowd. It was home free . . . almost.
Just a minute or two after Mom took the picture, Jared and Amanda announced that the bunny had fallen down the neighbor's window well. The bunny knew what was coming this time and darted about dodging Mom's hand. It almost jumped out on it's own in it's eagerness to escape Mom, but Mom did eventually catch it long enough to give it a boost the rest of the way out. Mom then sent the Muffins to guide the bunny away from the window well area and towards the back yard. It soon found some denser foliage to hide in, well away from window wells. And so it was that Mom got to fulfill her dream of actually petting one of the many bunnies we see all the time around here. Amanda and the others were disappointed that they didn't get to pet it too, but they were glad to have helped it get free and left dandelions and clover blossoms on top of the foliage where the last saw it, just in case it got hungry.

Mom had stationed Lydia in the stroller for the great bunny rescue, and with that done, Curtis decided it was time to move the party to the backyard.

Speaking of the backyard, it's been quite rainy there (and everywhere else) lately. So much so that we often look out at our carrots and wonder if we should have planted rice instead.

Remember the bean sprouts that started our garden this year? Well, here they are now, the two of them that are left:
And they have beans on them!!! (look closely under the leaves)

Mom mentioned a wild strawberry plant sometime back, too. Take a look at just how wild it is now:

While Mom was busy snapping plant pictures, the Muffins found ways to entertain themselves. Amanda climbed up her new favorite climbing tree in our little woods . . .
. . . and brought Lydia over to watch her do it.

Curtis decided he wanted to explore the wider world, but was ultimately foiled again by Mom.

Jared meanwhile enjoyed his newfound skill of extreme swinging. Hard to believe how far he's come since the days when he just liked to sit still on it.

And, last but not least today, here's our big development with Lydia: she's getting ready to take off!
