July 2017 Adventures with Grandparents Part 3

One day Grandmother and Grandfather took us to Connor Prairie, a living history museum. The kids spent a fair amount of time in the entry section, little knowing what lay beyond.
There was a hot air balloon, not running that day, but still impressive.
There was a barn, with farm animals to pet:

There was a cottage in which people wove and spun. In the garden outside, there was a place for people to do their own weaving.

In another section, it was the year 1836 as far as the staff members were concerned.
 1836 style fun: stilts!

In the tree house section, Amanda made herself a copper bracelet:
Clarissa enjoyed the drums in that area:
Curtis and Jared had fun excavating and building:
In the 1863/Civil War section, Lydia enjoyed the water table (not quite an 1860s thing, but nice on a hot summer day):
The oldest kids, including Curtis, got to throw hatchets:
The other kids found a canoe while Amanda took her turn with the hatchets. Quite a day!

July 2017 Adventures with Grandparents Part 2

On another day with Grandmother and Grandfather, we spent a day out in nature. First stop: blueberry picking!

While in the blueberry field, Mom found her first ever four-leaf clover, which did not impress Amanda, a pro clover hunter, at all.
Our next stop was a nature park, with a meadow of flowers and a path to tree houses.

A bouquet compiled by the kids:
Mom also found a couple of five-leaf clovers in the field:
Amanda, however, remained unimpressed, and compiled a collage of some of the many four-leaf clovers she found just that day, to say nothing of the others she's found before and since.

July 2017 Adventures with Grandparents Part 1

July 2017 was a time for visiting Grandmother and Grandfather. We started our adventures with them with a visit to "the world's largest children's museum," The Children's Museum of Indianapolis.

A bit of low tide in June 2017

A standard item on our summer to-do list is to visit salt water. This time around, we arrived at the peak of low tide. All those plants in front of us? Usually under water.
Here's the marker buoy for the swimming area, on the ground:
Looking back toward the shore from the "deep" side of the buoy line:
While Mom took pictures, the kids wandered out to sea:
Even when we did hit the water, it was still nice and low. Behold Clarissa in the foreground for comparison:
A selfie by Mom, looking back on the faraway shore:
Suffice it to say, the kids enjoyed having lots of shallow water:

 The sand was nice, too:

A Visit to the Lutz Chidren's Museum

Clarissa has frequently been asking to go to a children's museum lately, and she finally got her wish over Memorial Day weekend. The museum theme was a town from time past, with lots of hands-on play opportunities. There was also a selection of critters, including fish and a Flemish Giant rabbit. After our museum visit, we found maple bacon flavored potato chips at Aldi. Between the chips and the museum, everyone found something they liked. 😊
